INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION PROGRAMME

WoodPassport:
A traceability dossier for each container

WoodPassport is an independent verification programme for timber supply chains, linked to a structured file for each shipment.

Each WoodPassport reference corresponds to one shipped container: 1 WoodPassport file = 1 container.

This approach optimises traceability for each shipment, rather than for an entire supply chain.

The file brings together documentary evidence, field data, geospatial information and key summary points to support the importer’s assessment.

A rigorous approach to verify origin and facilitate compliance with your obligations.

INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION PROGRAMME

What WoodPassport is not

WoodPassport is a structured, independent verification programme. It is not a certification and does not constitute a certificate of compliance.

There is no official EUDR certification issued by private organisations.

No private organisation issues certification or authorisation under the EUDR.

WoodPassport is not an EUDR certification.

It does not issue a determination of compliance or any regulatory attestation.

WoodPassport does not replace the importer’s responsibility.

The importer remains responsible for its risk assessment and decisions.

How to use it

WoodPassport supports the importer in structuring their file through a simple and clear process.

Define the scope

Specify the relevant shipment or container and the required elements.

Link the shipment or container to the file

Connect the shipment to the WoodPassport verification file created.

Gather the verification evidence

Import and organise the documents and data required for the file.

Support the importer’s assessment

Provide a structured file to support risk assessment and decision-making.

Why post-import monitoring?

WoodPassport monitors weak signals that may emerge after importation in relation to the verified supply chain and alerts you at an early stage.

At the time of shipment, WoodPassport documents a supply chain as of a specific date: the date of the verified loading and the shipment of the container.

However, an administrative review may take place several months, or even one or two years, later. At that point, the competent authority may rely on more recent information showing a change in a supplier’s situation, the emergence of a new public warning signal, a change affecting a particular area, an update to an official database or the appearance of a sensitive sector-related issue.

When these developments occur after importation, they do not call into question the legality of the imported shipment. However, this must be demonstrated promptly.

Post-import monitoring therefore aims to track these signals over time, establish when they emerged, place them in context and provide the importer with explanatory evidence before a potential observation develops into a lengthy administrative procedure requiring further justification.

POST-IMPORT
MONITORING

24 months

WoodPassport includes post-import monitoring of the verified supply chain.

Monitoring weak signals after importation

Ongoing monitoring of relevant public and sector-specific sources.

Early warning for the importer

Prompt notification of any new signal that may affect the verified supply chain.

Dating and contextualisation

Each signal is documented: date, source, nature and scope concerned.

Anticipation and preparation

Preparation of contextual and mitigation information ahead of any subsequent inspection.
